SPRINGFIELD – Of all the events that happen in Boston over the course of the year from comic conventions to film festivals and more, few excursions are as highly anticipated by Boston locals and Massachusetts tourists alike as the Big E.
Located in West Springfield, the Big E has become one of the most expansive state fairs in the entire country as people from all over Massachusetts and all over the nation flock to the event that marks the end of summer. With the Big E rapidly approaching, we finally learned many more details about what to expect from the 2019 edition of the fair. And it seems like it is going to be great!
This year, the Big E will take place from September 13 to September 29 and, at the gate, tickets will cost just fifteen dollars for adults and ten dollars for children. (Kids under five receive free admission.)
From car shows to history museums, there will be plenty of entertainment offerings at the Big E, but one of the top draws will be the musical performances.
At the Court of Honor Stage, where concerts are free, notable headliners such as Blue Oyster Cult (of "Don't Fear the Reaper" fame) and Mason Ramsey (of yodeling in a Walmart fame) will be performing. On the other hand, The Big E Arena has some much more eye-catching acts, including Skillet on September 15, A Flock of Seagulls on September 20, Sesame Street Live! on September 22, Carly Rae Jepsen on September 28, and Foreigner on September 29 to close out the fair.
Additionally, the food is expect to be as delicious and unhealthy as ever at the Big E with Brussels sprouts and numerous cheeses being among the many fried foods that will be available to snack on. However, the deep fried pineapple upside down cake on a stick seems like a quintessential state fair food.
In addition to all of these exciting offerings, other local attractions are joining up with the Big E and its many festivities to make the experience as perfect as can be for all Massachusetts residents. It was recently announced that MGM Springfield would be helping out by offering guests a free shuttle to the state fair on the daily. Springfield's Union Station will also offer a free shuttle.
The Big E is coming and will certainly be a massive way to end September!
