BOSTON - Wahlburgers has finally begun construction on a new location at the MGM Casino in Springfield.

Initially announced to be part of the casino’s line-up back in 2018, construction on the family-inspired restaurant owned by the famous Wahlberg brothers was delayed due to lease issues.

“The original date was driven by finding a suitable tenant,” shared Seth Stratton, the vice president and legal counsel for MGM Springfield. “Because it took longer than expected to identify and enter into a lease with a suitable tenant, the schedule for the development of this space was delayed.”

After receiving an extension back in June of 2019 through the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, burger connoisseurs will soon be able to experience a specialty Wahlburger or made from scratch vegetarian dishes by this coming summer, something fans of the famous brothers have been awaiting.

Per Masslive, Wahlburgers is scheduled to open by July 8, 2020 where Dave’s Furniture was previously located in a much anticipated 4,500 square foot space.

Back in September 2019, Chef Paul Wahlberg attended a ceremonial groundbreaking alongside MGM Springfield President Michael Mathis, who thanked the three brothers, Paul, Donnie and Mark Wahlberg for “taking a chance on Springfield.”

Adding that Wahlburgers “represents a lot of the things that we believe in here at MGM. Reinvesting in the local community, making sure that we provide jobs to people, and provide exciting programming and a great product at an affordable price.”

The Wahlberg brothers now operate more than two dozen locations throughout the United States. Paul Wahlberg shared that Worcester may be the next location they plan to open up shop. They currently operate a food truck in the city that is in high demand and popular among Worcester residents.

Wahlburgers offers everything from specialty burgers to adult frappes and fresh salads and grilled fluffanutta.
