BOSTON – There is often a great amount of debate surrounding which city has the worst drivers. Personally, I would have to submit Orlando, Florida because of their extremely aggressive drivers right next to people from out of town who have never seen six-lane highways. There is absolutely no in-between. And when these two classes of drivers clash, it's not pretty.
Although, you have to give credit where credit is due. Cities in the northeast tend to be pretty claustrophobic and they are just begging for gridlock and poor driving decisions. This was definitely evident on one Boston highway this week.
Maybe it's cliché to complain about bad drivers in Boston. But this is really something to marvel at. The video, captured by Reddit user u/greasymctitties, was shared far and wide yesterday as he recorded a Nissan vehicle backing up on one of the ramps of the freeway.
It was a bold move.
As one eagle-eyed commenter in the thread pointed out, the license plate on the car seems to be representing the state of New Hampshire. With this, there are two schools of thought. On the one hand, the driver may be unfamiliar with navigating a complicated driving city like Boston and they are simply doing the best they can. On the other hand, New Hampshire is not some far-off land and the driver should still understand the basic concepts of operating a vehicle and being a decent human who doesn't drive in reverse on the HIGHWAY.
I am reminded of the John Mulaney stand-up joke when he said, “I started to make a U turn and then I panicked because I didn't want to make a U turn, so I put the car in reverse and then merged right back on the highway...after that, cars were pulling up...expecting to see a hundred year old blind dog who’s texting while driving and drinking a smoothie.” So the question is: was John Mulaney driving this Nissan with New Hampshire license plates?
