VIDEO: Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update Features David Ortiz and Elizabeth Warren

NEW YORK – With the return of the fall television season on the networks came the forty-fifth season of Saturday Night Live, which has become a staple of NBC by this point. Lately the show has actually been featuring some famous Boston and Massachusetts figures, thanks to their popular news parody segment, Weekend Update.

Anchored by Colin Jost and Michael Che, Weekend Update is a vehicle for the two to pretend as if they are news anchors delivering the top stories of the week. However, since it is a comedy show after all, the stories always come with a punchline.

Additionally, featured visits are part of Weekend Update, which see the cast members of the show playing characters, either fictional or otherwise, and doing bits with either Jost or Che. In these two videos, though, Jost was the one interviewing both times.

The first came last week during the episode that was hosted by Zombieland: Double Tap's Woody Harrelson with Billie Eilish as the musical guest. David Ortiz, as played by Kenan Thompson, made his return to the Update desk (he is a popular recurring "character) to discuss his summer and how he was shot in the Dominican Republic. Ortiz is healthy again and has enjoyed Thompson's performance in the past, so it definitely felt good to laugh about this after so long. I mean, what can I say? In a room filled with New Yorkers who are rooting for the Yankees in the post-season right now, the Boston Red Sox slugger is still on their minds.

This week, SNL was hosted by Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge with musical guest Taylor Swift, and this Weekend Update segment definitely leaned more into the political. Kate McKinnon returned as Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren to joke about her 2020 fundraising efforts and the recent "scandal" that Warren is a part of the BDSM scene.

Both segments definitely delivered on the laughs and it is always cool to see some popular Massachusetts figures lampooned on national television!
