EDGARTOWN - Back in December, it was reported by the Boston Globe that the Obama family had purchased a home in Martha's Vineyard. Now, this report has officially been confirmed by the Vineyard Gazette and MSN and the Obamas can now count themselves as Massachusetts homeowners.
The Obamas, of course, consist of former President Barack Obama, former First Lady Michelle Obama, their daughters, Malia and Sasha, and their dog, Bo. Malia currently attends Harvard University and Sasha is a student at the University of Michigan, so even if they played a much smaller role in the purchase of the Martha's Vineyard home, they will still get some use out of it surely.
Per the aforementioned Vineyard Gazette, the Obamas have officially closed on a deal to become homeowners in Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard. The massive home, which comes with seven rooms, cost $11.75 million. Who could possibly have owned such a lavish home in Massachusetts and sell it? That would be one of the owners of the Boston Celtics, of course: Wyc Grousbeck. Knowing President Obama's affinity for basketball, he might have considered this a top-selling feature.
The former First Family has a great deal of experience with Martha's Vineyard as it has become a top spot for summering for the Obamas. Even while in office, Martha's Vineyard was a top location to get away from the stress of the job, even if for a couple of days. Now, the Obamas have fallen so in love with the Massachusetts island that they wanted to lock up a place to stay there for the long haul. Though, I doubt they'd visit in the winter. But who knows? From living in Hawaii to living in Illinois to living in Washington, D.C., they have experienced a wide range of climates. Sasha Obama even once worked at a seafood restaurant in Martha's Vineyard, known as Nancy's.
You can just add the Obamas to the ever-growing list of public figures and celebrities who have taken a liking to homes in Massachusetts. Perhaps President Obama himself will take part in the next Boston-themed Jimmy Kimmel Live! sketch with Chris Evans and Matt Damon.
