Norwood, MA - (VIDEO IN ARTICLE) What would have been a quiet evening at a Norwood Mobil station took a dramatic turn when an alleged criminal entered the store. Store clerk Ebrahim Gawargi was working in the gas station when a man reportedly identified as John Benedict, a 46-year-old man from Dorchester, tried to grab money from Gawargi's hand and the register.
What Benedict did not anticipate was that Gawargi is a well-trained mixed martial artist who wasn't going to let him get away with the illegal act.
Ebrahim Gawargi trains in MMA for three to four hours per day, a choice that allowed him to gain the upper hand and eventually subdue the suspect.
Gawargi successfully protected the Mobil gas station on Route 1 in Norwood, and neither seems to have sustained serious injury. Police arrested John Benedict that day.
Ebrahim told reports that he never expected to need his martial arts training outside of the gym, but went on to say, "When he attacked me, I had to do something."
