BOSTON – Starting this fall, the Massachusetts Port Authority will begin a series of major construction projects at Logan Airport. The planned improvements include an expansion of Terminal E, updates to Terminal C, thousands more parking spaces, and sustainability planning to reduce harmful emissions. There will be a connector between terminals B and C, with expanded passenger amenities and space for retail and restaurants.
However, Massport warns that during the five-year project, travelers should expect “major impacts” including roadway rerouting. While construction has already started, so far the work has had minimal impact on the public, but that will be changing soon.
In an official release, Massport announced their communication campaign “Logan Forward” to keep the public apprised of the upcoming projects that will impact anyone coming in and out of Logan. A text alert program is in development and will be available later this fall. For frequent travelers, text alerts will be essential so they know which routes to avoid from day to day.

Massport has budgeted $2 billion for these projects, all of which aim to improve the overall passenger experience. Aviation Director Ed Freni stated: “We have a responsibility to build a modern, world-class facility because it is what our airline partners want and passengers expect… Not only are our terminal facilities old and need an upgrade, but we are improving the roadway system, reducing congestion and air emissions at the airport and our neighboring communities, and building more sustainable features at our terminals.”
As an international destination, Logan has a lot of work to do if it is to keep up with the competition. Many parts of Logan look like the bleakest of bus terminals, with few options for eating or shopping. One area where Logan is already excelling though? It ranks very highly for having great amenities for families traveling with children.
