Joe Kennedy Will Challenge Senator Ed Markey (D-MA)
After all the hype about it, no one is surprised to hear that Rep. Joe Kennedy III is officially running for Senator Ed Markey's seat next year. Kennedy will formally announce his plans on Saturday. Kennedy is 39 years old. Markey is 73 and has been in Congress since the 1970s. [Politico]
Tom Brady on the Injured List.
The 42-year-old quarterback for the New England Patriots wound up on the injured list due to a calf injury - limited participation. Sources say not to worry. [NECN]
VA Nurse Accused of Stealing Drugs from Veterans.
Former nurse Kathleen Noftle has been accused of stealing medication from veteran patients at the VA hospital in Bedford where she worked. She was arrested on federal charges for allegedly giving patients diluted doses of morphine and taking home the rest. [MassLive]
Massachusetts State Police Trooper Matthew Sheehan Indicted for Shooting an ATV Rider.
In February 2018, State Police Trooper Matthew Sheehan shot a man in the foot during a confrontation with a bunch of ATV riders who were riding their vehicles on I-93. The investigation revealed that one of the officer's bullets struck the side of the vehicle, casting doubt on his story that the man was riding directly toward him when he fired. [MassLive]
Malden Wants to Open a New Addiction Recovery Center.
Boston's South End, aka Methadone Mile, is home to a majority of the area's addiction recovery service centers. Now, Malden is preparing to submit an application to open a recovery center there, which would serve people leaving detox centers who have few treatment options in the area surrounding Boston after they leave detox.
