Free Summer Fitness Classes in Boston
Boston, MA– With the warm weather this weekend, I decided to spend some time at a beach near my house. I brought a book, some fruits, and a towel. As I arrived, I realized I had forgotten one thing: to get in shape. I'm not talking "6-pack beach bod," but more like, "with rain for the past month I've decided I won't go for a run until the sun comes out." Well, the sun is officially out, ladies and gentlemen.
But instead of joining a gym, or running that same loop every time, there's something else you could do. You know how you pay taxes to the city of Boston? Well, they're interested in helping you out. From June 3rd to September 28th Boston will be running FREE fitness classes in parks across the city.
Yes, you read correctly, FREE. For a full list and schedule of classes, click here.
All fitness levels are welcome at any classes, according to the Parks and Recreation Department. Do you enjoy yoga, but hate the cost of classes? At 6pm in South Boston's M Street park, they are running a free yoga class.
Looking for something more intense than that? They've got bootcamps, which "target your cardiovascular system and muscles by using exercises like jumping jacks, push-ups, and lunges. The instructor uses outdoor elements to conduct the exercises."
If you're looking for a little more fun of a workout they also have salsa dancing in Blackstone Square in the South End at 6pm on Monday nights.
Add onto this list the fact they have Tai Chi, line dancing, high intensity interval training, carnival fit, cardio dancing, and zumba, they really have something for everyone.
Lastly, you might be thinking... yeah but, what about in my neighborhood? They've got classes in JP, Allston, Charlestown, Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, North End, South End, Downtown, Fenway, etc.
Basically, you've got no more excuses. It's beautiful out, the classes are free, and they're happening pretty much everywhere. Happy salsa dancing!
