Boston, MA - Starting a tradition with its second year in a row of joy, Massachusetts' favorite coffee and donut chain is getting boozy!
Harpoon Brewery is a brewery that began in Massachusetts in 1986. By 2013, it grew to becoming the twelfth-largest craft brewery and 19th-largest overall brewery in the United States. Harpoon Brewery is well known for their classic seasonal beers and fantastic annual festivals such as Octoberfest. Bay Staters, however, officially have a whole other reason to love the brewery as they now team up with Dunkin Donuts.
According to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, the label for the beer-- which can be seen at the bottom of the article, was approved last week. The label, which follows the highly recognizable pink and orange color combination Dunkin Donuts Runs On, shows that the drink will be a Coffee Porter with a 6.0% alcohol content.
The second label advertisement, also pictured below, provides a little sneak peak of what is to come, with the coffee porter having a dark brown color, and a roasted, malty and smooth tastes. Looks like we are about to have some coffee with a kick / beer with a burst.
Chris Bonacci, the Harpoon Brewery's vice president of marketing provide little yet still exciting commentary, stating: “As for the filings, Dunkin’ Donuts and Harpoon can confirm that something exciting for fans is brewing, but you’ll have to stay tuned for more details this fall – we promise it'll be worth the wait." Boston.com, another local news site, additionally writes that on the phone Bonacci told them that this collaboration can be seen coming to fruition "sometime around late October to early November". My guess is that the company tries to beat out the Halloween specials we see with most breweries, like the Sam Adams Octoberfest and the pumpkin beer delicacy.
