Revere, MA - A 5-year-old girl and a 2-month old infant were hit by a car in Revere only just a few days ago. The two sisters did not make it safe out of the car incident. Adrianna Mejia-Rivera, the 5-year-old, was killed in the crash, while Natasha Nicole Mejia-Rivera, Adrianna’s sister, was rushed to the emergency room and sent to the intensive care unit. The 2-month-old has been in the intensive care unit at the local hospital since Sunday, December 9, 2018, when the incident happened.
The two sisters were waiting in the median on Revere Beach Parkway with their family when the car hit them. At around 5 p.m., a car drove onto the median where two adults and three children were standing. The grass median was located near the intersection of Route 145.
The 42-year-old driver that was allegedly at fault was held on $10,000 bail after her arraignment on Monday. The woman’s name is Autumn Harris.
According to officials, Harris confessed to consuming one beer earlier that afternoon. In addition, Harris also stated that she had taken both prescription and over-the-counter medications the night before to help her fall asleep. In her statement, officials wrote that she had only slept 2 hours that night. She then had worked all day on Sunday.
John Pappas, Suffolk County District Attorney, was assigned to the family’s case. He had also assigned two victim-witness advocates to the case. Pappas stated in an interview that his and everyone else’s, number one concern right now is to help the family, considering they’ve lost the center of their world.
A candlelight vigil was planned to take place on Thursday, December 13, 2018. It was held at city hall to remember the life of Adrianna Mejia-Rivera. Thoughts and prayers were sent out to the family for Natasha Nicole Mejia-Rivera, too.
There is no further information regarding Autumn Harris and what specific charges and jail time she will be facing. Officials have yet to release any further information and updates of Natasha Nicole have not yet to be released.
