BOSTON – The old cliché is that every kid has a dream for their perfect wedding: on a beach with the waves crashing in the distance, at an apple orchard in the fall, in a grand ballroom with snow falling outside. But, if you're willing to lay that dream wedding to rest, you might get an amazing experience: a FREE wedding at the Boston Public Library.

Wait, what?

Yes, while the library is usually closed on Saturday mornings, they will open it for one morning: February 2nd, 2020. In order to have your wedding there, you have to apply to a random lottery held online between October 15 to November 15. You only need to submit one entry per couple, and only four couples will win!

So, what would you win, exactly?

Well, there will be light breakfast and beverage compliments of The Catered Affair along with:

Each couple can bring 10 guests and will have one hour within the building.

“We are so excited to offer couples a chance to have the Boston Public Library become part of their love story,” said David Leonard, President of the Boston Public Library. “The McKim Building was created with the intention of serving as a ‘palace for the people,’ and I can think of few more fitting ways to celebrate its 125th anniversary than by welcoming guests into this space in such a meaningful way. We are, of course, grateful to the many sponsors whose combined efforts create a memorable experience for the newlyweds.”

In my humble, non-married opinion, I think this feels short notice for many couples and having only 10 people would mean you would probably still need to rent a place later for the actual party.

But at the end of the day, you're being offered an unforgettable experience at zero cost. It may not be the perfect wedding you dreamed of as a kid, but it sounds pretty great.
