BOSTON - Do you remember earlier this year when the summer was comprised of a ton of celebrity sightings in Massachusetts? From Worcester to Boston, it seemed like you couldn't take a couple steps without seeing a crowd gathered around wherever Ryan Reynolds was. That's because his new movie, Free Guy, was shot in both Worcester and Boston this summer.

The story of the movie is that a non-playable video game character named Guy (Reynolds) suddenly gains sentience and goes "offline" in the world. Boston's financial district stood in as the major template for the video game, as a whole. Now, a trailer has been released for the movie that shows Boston as a major landscape for this big-budget action comedy, as shared by the Boston Globe. Because of Reynolds' presence, there are also plenty of laughs.

Keep an eye out for certain landmarks from Massachusetts. Union Station, the Framingham Bank, and Liberty Square all make appearances in the movie. With such strong ties to our beloved state, Free Guy might just be able to carry the torch of the history of great Boston movies.

If you feel like watching the trailer and seeing our state go back and forth between open world video game concepts and completely violent destructions, then it has fortunately been provided to us by 20th Century Fox.

The beginning of the trailer might seem confusing. Wait a minute! Didn't Disney make Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin (albeit twice), and not Fox? Well, of course, earlier this year, a merger between Fox and Disney was completed. Clearly, Free Guy is a movie that Disney has faith in because it remained on the production schedule for Fox, even as dozens of movies were shuttered as a result.

The film was written by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn and is directed by Shawn Levy. In addition to Reynolds, it also stars Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), and Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street). If you want to see Boston on the big screen soon, Free Guy is your best chance on July 3, 2020!
