BOSTON - The concert series in Massachusetts next summer is slated to be an all-time great one for the state. Green Day is making their long-awaited return to Boston, alongside Weezer and Fall Out Boy. Taylor Swift is holding Lover Fest East in Foxborough for two nights. Of course, Billy Joel is returning to Fenway Park for the seventh consecutive year but the biggest fans of music in the Boston area always have their sights set on Boston Calling.
Arguably the biggest music festival in New England, Boston Calling has earned a reputation for being a great place to rock out in Massachusetts at the start of the summer. In 2020, the Boston Calling festival will be held in Allston at the Harvard Athletic Complex over the course of Memorial Day Weekend.
This past year's Boston Calling featured headliners like Hozier, Janelle Monae, Twenty-One Pilots, and Travis Scott. However, I think the 2020 slate of performers is bigger and better and could provide for Boston Calling's biggest season yet.
It was announced that the Red Hot Chili Peppers, comprised of Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and Josh Klinghoffer, will be the top act for Boston Calling 2020. Members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the RHCP has a loyal fanbase and has recorded hits over the years like, "Snow (Hey Oh)," "Under the Bridge," and "Californication." The last time they were in Boston, they performed at the TD Garden for their Getaway tour. And I was there! They are an amazing band to see live. Additionally, they are currently at work on a new studio album.
Joining the Peppers as a headliner act are the Foo Fighters, as reported by Billboard. Just last month, the Foo Fighters announced that they are also working on a new album. Comprised of Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett, and Rami Jaffee, the Foo Fighters have been beloved for years. Paired with RHCP, they will make for an incredible Boston Calling next spring.
Currently, general admission for Boston Calling is $239 with platinum passes starting at $1,049. Tickets went on sale today and they are only expected to continue ballooning upwards as more acts are announced for the festival. After all, after proclaiming the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Foo Fighters as the marquee acts, Boston Calling also made it clear that sixty more artists and groups are slated to perform. Any predictions as to who they will be?
