BOSTON - The neighborhood surrounding Fenway Park, the home stadium of the Boston Red Sox, is slated to welcome a new music hall to the area.

Per the announcement made last week by the Fenway Sports Real Estate Group, the new MGM Music Hall is projected to open at the corner of Landsdowne Street and Ipswich Street in the autumn of 2021.

The partnership comes by way of the Red Sox parent organization and MGM Resorts, both of which are aiming to open MGM Music Hall for the purpose of live events and performances from local academic institutions and arts programs, as shared by WHDH. There will be room enough for five thousand people inside and the four-story hall will cover just under one hundred thousand square feet. Over five hundred jobs are expected to come from the hall, as a whole.

It sounds like this will be a great addition to the Fenway area. You can never have too much culture, after all. This will help flesh out the capabilities of the Fenway area, in a manner similar to the developments made at Patriot Place.

The music hall is not only coming to the Fenway area to jazz up the spot and bring some additional nightlife and culture, but it also appears to be part of a coordinated effort from executives in the Red Sox and Fenway organizations to bring back some marquee events to Boston. The president of the Red Sox, Sam Kennedy, remarked that he is actively putting an effort in to bring the MLB All-Star Game back to Boston. It has not taken place at Fenway Park since 1999, when Ted Williams and Pedro Martinez stole the show. We’re due for a return as it has been over twenty years now.

The next two All-Star Games are slated to be hosted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020 and the Atlanta Braves in 2021. The Philadelphia Phillies will also host in 2026. For now, this leaves 2022 to 2025 up for grabs. The Red Sox are currently in negotiations with the MLB to reclaim the All-Star Game. Maybe the new music hall will help their case?
