5 Best Discounts at Boston Institutions for Low-Income Families

Boston, MA– WBUR recently reported that there are now 161 institutions around Boston where low-income residents can get great discounts for a day out with their family. On these cold days, it's great to have somewhere to take the kids.

These discounts are available to anyone who has an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, as part of the EBT Card to Culture program. To see if you are eligible, click here. For now, we took a look at the list of participating institutions to bring you the top five deals! Enjoy!

  1. Museum of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02115

The MFA is a large and illustrious institution near the Fenway neighborhood of Boston. They have plenty of events for adults and children alike, and one can easily spend an entire day there. Normal admission is $25 for adults, and free for kids under 17. With an EBT card, admission is $3. An excellent deal.

2. New England Aquarium, 1 Central Wharf, Boston, MA 02110

The aquarium is a well-known institution in Boston with a wide array of activities and a stunning IMAX theater. Admission is normally a steep $28 for adults and $19 for children. With an EBT card, admission is $5 per person, kids or adults. Another excellent deal.

3. Museum of Science, Museum Of Science Driveway, Boston, MA 02114

If you or your child are at all interested in science or how stuff works, the Museum of Science is a brilliant day out. With plenty of hands-on exhibits, exciting events, and a fantastic planetarium, it never fails to satisfy. But hold on, this deal is massive. Normal ticket prices are similar to the aquarium: $28 for anyone 12+, and $23 for all kids under 12. With an EBT card, you are entitled to FOUR FREE tickets to the exhibit halls. So far, our best deal by a landslide.

4. Boston Symphony Orchestra, 301 Massachusetts Ave, Boston, MA 02115

If art, science, or sea animals aren't your cup of tea, why not give music a try? The Boston Symphony Orchestra near Fenway is a stunning building in which no seat is a bad one. If you or your children have any interest in classical music, it's worth a trip here. Again, a similar unbelievable deal to the Museum of Science. The lowest prices for BSO shows range from $22-$40. With an EBT card, you can AGAIN get FOUR FREE tickets to any BSO show!

5. The Sports Museum, 100 Legends Way, Boston, MA 02114

Finally, if you or your children have just had too much art to handle with this list, The Sports Museum is a great option. Located in TD Garden near downtown Boston, this museum is packed with history from all your local favorite teams. Normal admission is $15 for adults, $10 for kids aged 7-18, and free for all children under six. With an EBT card, admission is $3 per adult and free for kids under 18 years of age.
